Dogfighters (Universal Fighter Class Rule)

vJuly 30

Every Fighter has Dogfighters for free — it never consumes the Fighter's single ability slot.

The Rule

Dogfighters: each remaining Fighter base contributes 1 Attack with its Fighter weapon. When targeting a unit whose bases are 40mm or smaller, each remaining Fighter base instead contributes 2 Attacks. Fighter weapons also have a maximum range of 6".

Explanation

Dogfighters is a Universal Fighter Class Rule: it is printed on every Fighter unit at no cost and does not use the Fighter's one printed ability slot, leaving that slot free for faction identity. Because attacks scale with surviving bases, offensive output degrades naturally as casualties are removed.

Example

A standard four-base Fighter squadron generates: 4 bases — 4 attacks (8 vs ≤40mm targets); 3 bases — 3 attacks (6); 2 bases — 2 attacks (4); 1 base — 1 attack (2).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Dogfighters use the Fighter's ability slot?

No. It is a Universal Fighter Class Rule and is always free.

Which targets trigger the doubled attacks?

Any unit whose bases are 40mm or smaller — including other Fighters, Bombers and Escorts.

Designer Commentary

Making Dogfighters universal keeps small-craft duels lethal while leaving each faction's Fighter ability slot open for identity — the Myr-Valari Veilwing, for example, spends its slot on Dodge/BS tricks.
